A larger drill will prevent stones from fracturing more than a small bore drill. Monopros on MPV's AK used a 12 inch bore to extact the bulk sample. This 12 " bore allows the bulk to be extacted more efficiently (where there is a pipe) . The larger bore would not be as useful on a narrow dyke.
cheers
