Color me dense - I don't see clearly what MSFT's interests are in this whole mess. Why would MSFT be a "loser" if AT&T grabs MediaOne? The article never makes it fully clear. Unless the idea is that MSN is in the same predicament as AOL as far as broadband access is concerned. I don't know about the set top box - the whole thing seems not ready for prime time.

Obviously, everything is moving toward expanding bandwidth. But I'm not sure that somehow cable is the one and only way. Or telephony solutions by way of DSL etc. Whatever happened to Bill's sattellite ideas for connectivity? My point is, that it's too soon to say: the only way to greater bandwidth is though cable (or DSL, or whatever). The technology is still evolving. And what EXACTLY are MSFT's interests in all this? I see why this is a big issue for AT&T, and obviously for other cable operators - but where does MSFT fit in all this?
