statistics that when there is a proliferation of guns, there are more gun deaths.


Actually, that isn't obvious from the statistics.

The U.S. society celebrates violence. In sports (we prefer watching football to watching chess, and one of the most popular "sports" on TV is professional wrestling). As a society we prefer "action" movies. Our celebrated comics are the Marx brothers and Laurel and Hardy (people being hit) rather than Flanders and Swann (intelligent comedy). Our cartoons, both TV and print, are filled with violence, death, etc. That isn't true in most other countries.

Gun ownership doesn't cause any of this.

Personally, I don't own a gun, never have, and don't ever expect to. I have never lived in a home with a gun in it. But I also don't see the benefit in false argument.
