Customers

Customer implementations of the Castanet product suite are as diverse as the e-business requirements of organizations worldwide. The following examples span intranet, extranet and Internet e-business applications, and are a small sample of how organizations are relying on Castanet to provide a management infrastructure for business-to-employee, business-to-business, and business-to-customer networked communications.

Business-to-Employee (Intranet Applications)
Cytec, Home Depot and Sun Microsystems provide examples of intranet applications where lowering total cost of operations, automating application installation and maintenance and improving controlled access to information are paramount. All of these companies selected Castanet to distribute, manage and maintain critical, line-of-business applications to their own employees, whether they reside in headquarter locations, remote offices, retail outlets or in the field. Cytec selected Castanet to manage its supply chain application accessed daily by employees worldwide; Home Depot selected Castanet to accelerate deployment of its custom design applications to its chain of stores worldwide while keeping support and training cost low; and Sun is utilizing Castanet to manage the distribution of information and applications to 25,000 employees in 150 countries.

Business-to-Business (Extranet Applications)
Nortel's Bay Networks division and Seagate Technology provide examples of combined intranet and extranet applications, relying on Castanet's built-in security features, bandwidth efficiency, personalization features, and support for disconnected use. Nortel selected Castanet to provide uniform delivery and maintenance of its manufacturing test applications shared among internal employees and external contractors. Seagate Technology is utilizing Castanet to deliver and update business applications such as sales forecasting and pricing information to its internal sales management, mobile sales force and external OEM and distributor partners.

Business-to-Customer (Internet Applications)
OnSale and Intuit provide examples of Internet applications where scalability to millions of end users, bandwidth efficiency, cross platform support and incremental, transactional updates are key. OnSale, the largest Internet auction retailer with over one million registered users, built its Bid Watch application on Castanet's infrastructure in order to collect and display real-time bid information for up to 1,000 simultaneous users. Intuit embedded Castanet into its Quicken 99 personal finance software to enable its installed base of millions of on-line users to receive software and information updates quickly and transparently.

Distribution

Marimba markets its products worldwide through a combination of a direct sales force and reseller/distributor partners. IBM/Tivoli is a Castanet reseller. In the Asia/Pacific region, Marimba's distributor partners include Fujitsu, Hitachi and Itochu CTC.
