A couple of days ago I asked what caused the Protestant Reformation. I was told that it was not a spiritual movement, but was started by kings for temporal reasons.. I don't consider myself to be an expert on the history of religion, but here are some facts which may be of interest.

The oldest Protestant church, the Moravian, was founded by followers of John Huss, who was executed for heresy in 1415.

Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberg in 1517.

Zwingli's first Protestant treatise, against fasting during Lent, was published in 1519.

Meanwhile, over in England, Henry VIII wrote a treatise against Lutheranism, for which the Pope gave him the title "Defender of the Faith." Henry VIII founded the Church of England in the 1530's.
