Disco Bull: Absolutely true the group have done well. But good times do not last forever. Take a look at the period 90 -93. Every one of these Companies except for PFE and LLY have a choker on their existing product pipeline. Because of the need to contain Inflation, Drug prices will be subject to very small increases. In the past, the Drug Firms were able to increase prices by introducing newer product formulations with marginal patient benefit. Medicare, HMOS and the public are getting more reluctant to any premium increases for marginal benefits. As such the future for the drug Companies is now focussed on either producing Block Buster drugs for Captive markets or High volume cheaper sales to make up for Competition. Since the public can only provide so many prescriptions, the Drug Firms will see a slowing down of revenue growth. It is for this reason that smart Investors have moved out of this sector. The selling may continue for the next 6-8 mths similar to what other sectors have faced.
