Christopher, your suggestion falls into the category of the "creative solutions" the SI community itself can employ, which I mentioned without specifying.

For those interested, I will repost your solution, as you expressed it on the Welcome to Silicon Investors thread, because the way you expressed it here sounds too bloody "libertarian" to me. That is, focussed too much on the comfort of the individual, and too little on the comfort of the community at large. ("Comfort" is not the word I want; but it's too late for my brain to come up with the right one.)

OOPS -- I forgot that at least half of the people here are libertarians! Well, I had better strap on my armor....Where's my shield? And my helmet? Ahh...now I'm ready for the slings and arrows! Fire away!

Anyway, I can buy the following:

The simple way to deal with Emile is for SI to implement a filter where we can simply say "don't show me any posts from this poster on this thread." The individual would be told how many people -- but not who -- had cut them off of which threads; in time they might get the picture, or quit posting on that thread.(There are a number of posters I would like to block on some threads but not others, so the blocks should be thread specific.) If they want to, SI admin can monitor how many people have cut off which posters on which threads and decide whether they want to cut the people off certain threads entirely. It might even be that blocks should expire after, say, two months if not re-instituted, to give some recognition to the possibility of people changing.

And now, good night, all.

Joan
