As for the historical record, I suppose that the Vatican may have it? Can't think of any institution more likely to have it, as it was aimed at them. Luther was a priest at the time. Anyway, no doubt that he wrote the 95 theses, and of its result.

Husband, BTW, was brought up Lutheran. He says he understands the story to be accurate.

As to contemporary sources, well, guess I could look, but although I speak German, I'd have to actually look at the darn thing to see if it actually says that, and would you trust me?
