Edwin, Zip, relative to all other forms of data storage, is the best. That is not just my opinion, but everyone else I know that has used Zip disks and drives. I don't know of anyone with a failure of a disk or drive in three years. And in a university setting, there are few machines without a Zip drive. It is the media for file backup, exchanging data, grants, slide presentations, etc. No professional would be without one. And in the last year, internal Zips are bought with purchase of any new machine. It is expected.
The key is reliability. Floppy disks fail regularly and often. No one trusts data on a floppy for more than a few uses. Hard drives are better than they used to be but still can't be trusted. Zips are the most trusted media around here.
Jock, got bad info. COD may be real but it can't infect another drive. Rather a damaged disk if put in a good drive may be badly damaged enough to damage the drive head of another drive. That is not contamination, it is physical damage. It's like hitting a rock on iceskates and mangling the skate head. Then continuing to skate, tearing up the ice. When it is impossible to skate on that surface, the bad ice is blamed. And then you move to another pond and try to skate again with the same mangled skate blade. Not only will you still be unable to skate, but you will tear up the ice surface at the second pond. To call this process contamination is just plain stupid.
