I can't remember the precise figures, but last year a study of funds flowing into the US bond market (I believe the work was done by economists for one of the big investment bank shops) came up with a surprisingly low figure regarding the flow of Japanese money into the bond market here. Something like 6 percent or less of US debt was being bought up by the Japanese. M2
