MRIS to have share of U.S. Net subsidiary of Bank of Scotland

According to a May 2 Reuters story from London, Bank of Scotland (BSCT.L) and Pat Robertson, the television evangelist, will list a direct banking venture as an Internet bank on the NASDAQ exchange.

Bank of Scotland and the Christian Broadcasting Network earlier said they would set up a U.S. direct banking operation offering banking services through the telephone and Internet only. Bank of Scotland already has a similar banking partnership with UK retailer J. Sainsbury Plc.

The bank would be a subsidiary of Bank of Scotland, with Robertson owning a minority stake, the bank reported last month, according to the story.

Robertson reports that he reserved the name "Bank Direct USA." It would be owned 60 percent by the Bank of Scotland, Robertson would have 25 percent "and the Milwaukee-based Marshall & Ilsley (MRIS - news) would handle the bank's back-office processing and own the remaining 15 percent."

According to the PR, partners would put up $50 million in capital, sufficient to support $300 million in deposits. Robertson said that the bank aimed to reach $3 billion in deposits in three years.
