Industrial distributors, such as Pioneer-Standard Electronics Inc., Avnet Inc. and Gates/Arrow Distributing Inc., continue to sell Compaq's more complex storage product set, but the vendor wants to penetrate the departmental customers, said Rick Nagengast, director of North American storage marketing at Compaq.

It has built an interoperability lab to test compatibility of its products with third-party devices and refocused its services division to help customers with SAN installations, risk analysis, and readiness.
