The Vancouver Sun reports in its Saturday edition that a former Seventh-Day
Adventist pastor ran an illegal stock investment scheme that cost British
Columbia investors more than $11-million, the B.C. Securities Commission
has found. Reporter David Baines says that in a 26-page decision released
on Friday, the commission described Gary Stanhiser as "underhanded" and
"dishonest" and concluded that he defrauded investors. The commission also
found that Del and Linda Knowlton of Langley assisted Mr. Stanhiser in
distributing unregistered securities and has called for a further hearing
to assess penalties. The securities commission is reviewing the conduct of
Canaccord Capital and broker John Johnston. Vancouver Stock Exchange
officials are reviewing the conduct of the companies that participated in
the scheme. They are Consolidated Mosquito Gold Mines, Kensington
Resources, SAMEX Mining, IMA Resource, Golden Hat Resources and
Consolidated Nu-Media, now Pan Asia Mining.
