That is exactly what those commodity electronics companies should not do. It is certainly no coincidence that with such oligopolistic practices, none of the major airlines has outperformed the market practically since deregulation. There is a definite lack of innovation in this business, and cooperation between competitors is the cause.

Indeed, one of the few airlines to perform well in the stock market, Southwest, is reviled by the others because they expressly do not play by those same rules. That rebel attitude has been to Southwest's advantage, and not coincidentally it has also benefited both consumers and Southwest's shareholders.
