Thank you E,

Every so often I get a lucid thought, and since today seems to be one of those days in which I can see things logically, I thought I would seize the moment and add a few more thoughts.

Opponents of gun control often point to a loss of freedom, and they are quite right. Unfortunately, the implied argument is a truism and devoid of meaning in any serious debate on the issue. Governments always abridge freedom. If we were to frame the issue in a less emotional setting the vacuousness of the argument becomes apparent. For example, installing a traffic light at an intersection limits ones freedom to drive through without stopping.

It seems to me that the debate needs to be centered on one issue, and one issue alone: Will the presumed benefits of establishing tough and effective gun control outweigh the aggregate cost to personal freedom?

Now let me throw out hypotheticals to the 2nd Amendment crowd: suppose an outright prohibition on the private ownership of hand guns would result in a 50% reduction in gun-related deaths, would you be in favor of it?

If not, suppose for the sake of argument it completely eliminated gun-related deaths, would you still oppose gun control?

TTFN,
CTC
