Actually I read back to post 3000 before asking my question. Indeed Mr. Sam alludes to the issue in his posts 3244 and 3248. The reason behind my question is that if they do a good job and make the hard decisions early, then they are more likely to positively impact the bottom line.

Previously from the data I have seen (DQ '98) IPEC had lost share to AMAT and SFAM. It's encouraging to read that perhaps SFAM gains a solid copper process from IPEC and of course spares and service business. But the most immediate impact will come from an effective rationalization of the product lines along with curtailed spending for those that will be discontinued.

BTW any thoughts on what kind of expense is likely for purchased in R&D write offs?
