I don't recall anyone stating the K7 will be 40% faster. Just doesn't work that way.
The problem is that people tend to compare the present with the future. Our friend Paul put it well, Intel is like the tourtise and AMD the hare. By the time AMD has caught up, Intel has moved forward. So what looked like a possible BIG speed leap ahead of Intel is diminished by the time AMD puts out the K7.
Same thing happened to Cyrix. The MediaGX two chip solution looked much better a year ago. Now Intel has closed the gap and taken the lead on that concept. NSM is no where is site with the PCOAC either and Intel has their own in the works. Says something for keeping ideas secret so Intel doesn't copy.
