Not at all. I am not maneuvering you. I am simply probing your personal limitations, and the personal limitations of other gun owners. If you were to ask me the same questions I posed to you I would say that if we could reasonably expect even a 10% reduction in the gun-related homicides the cost in terms of the loss of my personal freedom would be worth it.

Essentially we have two costs: we have a quantifiable cost in terms of the loss of real property and the cost of enforcement. But we also have a non-quantifiable cost -- the sense of loss of personal freedoms. If I were to express this in terms of driving along a highway at any speed I chose, would the argument make any more sense? I love to drive quickly (and have been known to be very aggressive when behind the wheel of a particularly nimble sports car). Am I willing to give up my freedom to dive at 150 mph in return for a reduction in highway fatalities? Does this analogy make sense to you?

There are people out on the streets that love guns. I mean LOVE guns. Guns seem to be an icon for their masculinity. How do I quantify that? I don't know. At least we know that certain things are quantifiable like the cost of enforcement and the cost of buy-backs. Other costs are presumptions, like the benefits to be gained. It is all a balancing act, and we need to set some reasonable tare weights for the balance.
