WaterChef Applies for Patent on its Village Water Center

GLEN HEAD, N.Y., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- David A. Conway, President/CEO, announced that WaterChef (Nasdaq: WTER - news) has applied for an application patent on its innovative Village Water Center. The Village Water Center is designed to inexpensively convert ''grey'' water (bathing grade) to pure drinking water. The system, complete with back-up power supply, takes rough filtered water and through a series of refining filtration processes and subsystems, provides up to 5,000 gallons per day of potable water -- enough to satisfy the daily requirements for a small population of 2,500 to 3,500 persons.

In the emerging economies of the world, the most significant threat to health and well-being is the wide range of infectious diseases caused by water-borne bacteria. These countries, faced with the urgent need for safe drinking water, cannot afford municipal water treatment systems designed to treat ''all'' the water when less than 2% of that water is used for drinking and cooking. The cost of building, maintaining and operating these large capital projects makes them an uneconomic solution.

The Village Water Center (VWC) is built in WaterChef's Havre, Montana factory and is designed to be installed in a ''rural'' environment. The ''VWC'' requires available power (230v/50hz), input water pressures of 30psi and an enclosure to protect the system from the elements. While designed to be rugged and easy to operate, the system requires a full time attendant(s) during hours of operation. The attendant is responsible for primary maintenance; to assure the cleanliness of vessels utilized for drinking water, to change filter cartridges when indicated, and if necessary, to engage the standby power source.

WaterChef, Inc. is a Nasdaq Bulletin Board Company trading under the symbol ''WTER.'' WaterChef has factories in Havre, Montana and Tianjin, China, where it manufactures water coolers and also sells water filtering systems for office and home use. Sales offices are located in Phoenix, Arizona and Glen Head, New York where the headquarters are located.
