Headline: Glenayre's AccessMate Features Pre-Programmed Response Capability For
the ReFLEX 25 Network New Two-Way Communication Feature Supports Expansion of
ReFLEX 25 Network

======================================================================
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre's Wireless Access
Group today announced that its AccessMate(TM) alphanumeric text advanced
messaging device offers the ability to reply to text messages with pre-
programmed responses over the ReFLEX(TM) 25 network. Users of the AccessMate
can receive e-mail and pager-originated messages on their device and now have
a choice to reply with up to sixteen pre-programmed responses such as, "On my
way," "Yes," "Will call later," and "Thank you." The ability to respond with
pre-programmed messages adds to the unprecedented combination of size and
functionality offered by the AccessMate.
The AccessMate was the first messaging device to offer the smallest form
factor yet still achieve advanced functionality such as: registration, which
allows the device to register its exact geographic location on the network;
guaranteed message delivery, whereby users receive all messages that are sent
to them; and Over The Air Programming (OTAP) which allows carriers to offer
custom end-user information services.
"The pre-programmed features of the AccessMate make the device an ideal
messaging platform for paging carriers as they expand their ReFLEX 25 networks
to include reverse channel capabilities," said Gary Hermansen, president and
general manager of Glenayre's Wireless Access Group. "Paging carriers can now
offer the advanced functionality of two-way nationwide coverage for costs
comparable to that of local one-way coverage. The AccessMate provides an
optimum solution for two-way communication as the industry moves to broader
adoption of ReFLEX networks."

Benefits of Pre-Programmed Response

For workgroups and for individual users of the AccessMate, the ability to
respond to text messages with pre-programmed responses is an inexpensive and
convenient way to stay in touch. Paging carriers can customize the pre-
programmed responses for the pager to any message up to 20 characters. A
delivery or courier service, for example, could send out e-mail messages to
its drivers with the next pick up location and other information such as the
size or weight of a package and driving directions. Drivers can then respond
on their AccessMate with pre-programmed messages such as, "pick-up completed"
or "traffic delay," without having to make a costly cellular phone call or
spend time searching for a pay phone.
For individuals, the AccessMate provides a small and reliable way to stay
in touch with friends and family while on the road. The AccessMate is the
smallest advanced messaging device available on the market and it operates on
one AA alkaline battery for over 30 days, so users do not have to compromise
on size, battery life or functionality. In addition to pre-programmed
responses, the AccessMate also features guaranteed message delivery. With
guaranteed message delivery, users will receive all messages that are sent to
them, even if their pager is out of range or turned off.

Benefits to Carriers

The advanced functionality of the AccessMate allows paging carriers to
provide a more complete communication solution to customers over ReFLEX 25
networks. The pre-programmed response capability of the AccessMate makes the
device an optimum entry point for carriers expanding their networks to two-
way. Carriers can now offer their customers an inexpensive, compact and
reliable device with the benefits of two-way communication.
With the AccessMate, carriers can also provide their customers with
features such as guaranteed message delivery and pre-programmed responses at a
lower cost nationwide and to more customers than a one-way local service
network. This is due in part to the registration feature of the AccessMate.
With registration, the AccessMate can register its exact geographic location
on networks based on the ReFLEX 25 protocol. This allows the carrier to
transmit alphanumeric text messages more efficiently and economically than
traditional one-way networks, where the pager location is unknown. Since the
exact location of the AccessMate is known on the ReFLEX network at all times,
messages can be sent directly to the device, instead of the system having to
broadcast the message over the entire network.
Carriers can now create very competitively priced regional and nationwide
service packages for close to the cost of local one-way packages, since the
service is so much more cost-effective to deliver. The AccessMate also
features an OTAP capability that allows carriers to offer custom end-user
information services such as updates on stocks, weather, sports and news.
