MCI WorldCom May Join Comcast in Bid for MediaOne, NYT Says
Jackson, Mississippi, May 3 (Bloomberg) -- MCI WorldCom Inc., the No. 2 long-distance company, is seriously considering joining Comcast Corp. in its bid to acquire MediaOne Group, the New York Times reported, citing executives close to the negotiations. MCI WorldCom was close to signing a confidentiality agreement with MediaOne tonight for it to review financial information. America Online Inc. and Paul Allen, Microsoft Corp.'s co-founder, have dropped out of talks with Comcast, which is trying to top AT&T's $62.5 billion bid for MediaOne, the New York Times reported.
MediaOne Group, the fourth-largest U.S. cable-television company, said it will sell itself to AT&T unless Comcast can come up with a better offer by Thursday. (NYT 5/4 www.nytimes.com)
