Anything less than 10% would not be considered a "correction" IMO. You make a good point with the relative comparisons of point moves - however that's what happens when you deal with percentages. It alters your perception a bit - like realising that when a stock gets knocked down by 50%, it has to go up 100% to get back to where it was. It's easier to accept that the DOW has gone up 1,000 points in the past month, than that it could drop the same amount over 3 months, for example.

The media would be all over a 1,000 point drop. I wonder what they will call it.

That would probably depend on how long it took to drop the 1,000 points. <ggg>

FWIW, I don't think the DOW will pull back 10% - 5% sounds more like it.
