Scheirer made two ending points...
and as you say, he does seem to have an fatherly bias toward the AAC MPEG standard..perhaps not as objective as he might be. He also left out the Champagne category..and IMO EDIG/EPAC belongs there....of course, I'm not biased either.<gg>
------------------------------
1."It is worth mentioning that, since the architecture for secure digital music solution being used will be interoperable, both AAC and EPAC could be used."
2."These factors guarantee that the MP3 format will never truly die, and the MP3 movement will continue to apply pressure to the music marketplace, ultimately acting as a contributing factor to the R&D forces of competition"
-------------------
So, it would appear that he is hedging his bet, leaving the field open, and not taking a strong stance in any particular direction.
As I said a long time ago, this is shaping up to be a battle royale.
Fast paced, and fiercely contested. The paradigm shift in distribution caught the music industry flat footed, but they are up on their toes now and swinging hard. Can they deliver the knock out blow? Time will tell.
In the meantime, all competing technologies have a fighting chance. EDIG is right in the middle of the brulyie. With all the attendant press to come from the heavyweights on our side. What a wonderful position.
And that's just ONE use for the technology EDIG has. Could we have it any better?
Best, Savant
