Scheirer doesn't realize how determined those 'pirates' are. He also doesn't give appropriate weight to EPAC's better sound quality. Also in the dual format argument, he perhaps forgot that it took quite a while for VHS to predominate over Beta..which hard to believe, is still with us after all these years. Wonder how long before Beta is gone forever? The decoding time isn't that significant in handhelds IMO. The one argument that has some merit, again reminiscent of V/B is the 22 to one compression. Lucent counters that with their discussion of their better encoding and eliminating useless data. In the long run, storage media will get smaller in size, lower in cost, and greater in capacity, removing that as a deciding factor. Best, Savant
