Pat,

I'm not too sure if $110 for a V3 2000 is a good price. I think they sell it for less to distributors. A certain online store that sells at or near cost(which I hate so I won't metion their name)has the 2000 for about $102. I would guess that OEMs get it for even cheaper because there is no retail packaging (which means that it is cheaper for 3dfx as well).

I also think that they're selling some chips to go directly on motherboards, so that will help as well. Plus they're selling a bunch of 3000's as well which go for about $145.

The only reason why I'm hesitant to think that earnings of $3 a share is going to happen this year is that 3dfx may really ramp up marketing and R&D expenses this year. They're trying to create and solidify their brand while making sure that their chips do very well against the competition. This would be the year to keep the pressure up full tilt against the other chip/boardmakers so that more and more falter. Plenty of time to make lots of $$$ in 2000.

BTW - I've been reading USenet and hardware websites. A small frenzy against NVIDIA and Diamond is building. Seems that lying to the customer is not appreciated <grin>. NVIDIA Tom won't care, but I wonder if Sharky is very embarrassed about the Ultra's specs.

Michael
