LGS Makes a Major Breakthrough in Europe Thanks to a
Contract With the Italian Retail Giant Coop Italia

MAY 4, 1999
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--LGS Group has made another major inroad in
Europe with the signing of key contracts valued at over $5 million
with Coop Italia, the largest retail distribution chain in Italy.
Coop Italia gave LGS Group a mandate to implement Anabel, a
software package for retailing that a number of large European
retailers are already using. Work connected to these contracts
with Coop Italia is already underway and will continue throughout
the year. New mandates associated with Anabel software, which
should strengthen the long-term relationship with Coop Italia, are
expected shortly.
Raymond Lafontaine, president of LGS Group, is pleased with the
agreement reached with Coop Italia; its status as a major chain
will allow LGS to gain a solid foothold in Italian territory.
"Anabel makes it possible for us to provide Coop Italia with a
world-class retail software package that the group can use as a
tool for integrated, efficient management of its stores."
Coop Italia is a group of co-operatives covering the entire
country and operating in the banking, insurance and retail
business sectors. The nine co-operatives associated with the
retail business constitute the most important Italian organization
in this sector. Coop Italia Distribution has 50 hypermarkets and
over 1,300 supermarkets in Italy. Based in Bologna, Coop Italia
has annual revenues of $15 billion. Implementing Anabel will
allow Coop Italia to realize considerable savings thanks to
improved supplier relationship management.
Anabel is a global solution of international scope that enables
European distribution companies to set up a centralized data
warehousing system for purchasing and supply for their stores.
This software package is specially designed to manage the supply
chain. According to the American company AMR Research, this
market should increase by 50 percent this year and yield revenues
of $3.9 billion to information technology companies. With this
breakthrough in Italy, LGS Group has confirmed its status as a
major supplier of services in this full-growth sector.
LGS Group Inc. (LGSA at NASDAQ, LGS.A at ME) is one of Canada's
largest information technology consulting firms specializing in
management and systems integration. With annual sales exceeding
$134 million in the last financial year and $160 million in the
current nine months, LGS employs approximately 2,200 professionals
in 19 offices in Canada, the United States and Europe. The
company is active in most areas of the private and public sectors.
