Citrix MetaFrame Server-Based Computing Software Gains SAP Support

SAP Announces Technical Assistance for Customers Deploying SAP(TM) R/3(R) ERP Business Solutions via Citrix MetaFrame Server-Based Computing Software

NICE, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1999-- Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS - news) today announced at SAPPHIRE '99 that SAP AG (NYSE:SAP - news), the world's leading provider of business software solutions, will support the enterprise deployment of SAP R/3 ERP business software solutions on Citrix MetaFrame(TM) server-based computing software. The deployment of the SAP front-end software, SAPGUI, via Citrix MetaFrame server-based computing software provides many customer benefits, including faster implementation of SAP R/3 applications and upgrades for greater time-to-value, cost savings and reduced support requirements through centralized application management, and the ability to deploy SAP R/3 to a wider variety of clients to match the individual needs of each user.

SAP's technical assistance for Citrix MetaFrame server-based computing software will initially be provided on a controlled availability basis, where customers register with SAP before deployment. Unrestricted technical assistance is expected to be made available by SAP later this year. SAP support for Citrix MetaFrame follows the recent announcement of SAP's membership in the Citrix Business Alliance Program in April, and is a further strengthening of the relationship between the two companies to provide enterprise customers robust, cost-effective solutions for application deployment and management.

''SAP offers our customers more flexibility and investment protection for their desktop strategies with the support of Microsoft Terminal Server and Citrix MetaFrame,'' said Karl-Heinz Hess, Member of the Extended Executive Board, SAP AG. ''Using this solution, the latest Windows-based SAPGUI can be deployed on legacy PCs, new Windows CE devices or on a variety of non-Windows clients with minimal effort.''

''Enterprise customers are increasingly looking to deploy ERP solutions through a server-based computing architecture in order to enjoy rapid application deployment, lower TCO, and broadened application availability,'' said Steve Adams, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for Citrix. ''SAP solutions empower companies of all sizes and all industry sectors to respond quickly and decisively to dynamic market conditions. We are pleased MetaFrame is now an officially supported SAP platform, as it can deliver the manageability, scalability and performance enterprise customers require. Together they are a very compelling combination.''

SAP will support the customer implementation of SAPGUI Version 4.5B (or later) on MetaFrame platforms (running the Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition operating system). This enables SAP R/3 applications to be contained fully within a server complex, with just screen information distributed to client devices. A wide variety of client devices can be supported within this architecture including those based on both Microsoft Windows (Windows NT, Windows 9X, Windows CE, Windows 3.11) and non-Windows (MS-DOS, Mac OS, Java OS/2, Linux, SunSoft Solaris, HP-UX and other UNIX variants, as well as web browsers) environments.
