New Affiliation as Verio ISP Gives Signet Direct Access To Tier-One
Backbone And Enhances Ability to Serve Local Business Customers

AUSTIN, Texas, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Austin-based Internet Service Provider (ISP) Signet Partners, Inc. has accepted a minority investment from Denver-based Verio Inc, which today launched a new national Internet network combining the strength of a high-speed, tier-one backbone with the service of prominent local and regional Internet providers around the country.

The venture means expanded market leadership for Signet and improved Internet performance and reliability for the company's customers thanks to Verio's high-speed national backbone and sophisticated network operations.

The terms of the investment are not disclosed. Verio has so far received $80 million in private financing to build its tier-one backbone and to buy or invest in ISPs to build a new national network designed specifically to serve small- to medium-sized business and institutional customers.

According to Signet President Bill Games, Verio's selection of his company as the Austin, Houston and San Antonio Verio affiliate serves as a testament to Signet's vision and stability. "This investment reaffirms our solid business model and our stable corporate history," said Games. "It positions us to reinforce our market leadership in the Texas region."

"Verio is the first national Internet service provider that's local," said Verio Chief Executive Officer Justin Jaschke. "Our intention is to build a first-class, full-service data carrier by giving new national strength to what is already the cream of the crop among local and regional Internet providers. Signet can now continue its tremendous growth because, as a Verio affiliate, it has the tools to give business and institutional customers the reliable connectivity, applications and security they need."

Signet pioneered Internet service in Texas when it installed Austin's
first ISDN line in 1994. In addition, Signet is the first Texas ISP to offer Internet access using ADSL technology that enables businesses to access the Internet at speeds up to 200 times faster than a standard modem.
