Well, Tony, one thing I like about being long in EMC..... is that the choice seems awfully clear: Either we are being hoodwinked big-time (ie., Ruettgers is saying a lot of crap he does not himself believe) or the HP/Hitachi thing is no big deal.
In good conscience (yes, I still believe in that) I don't believe Ruettgers and IR could come out with the strong growth pronouncements that they have (before CC, and during) IF they felt HP's impending announcement would have any (substantial, immediate) impact on sales going forward.
Additionally, I find it hard to believe that EMC did not know this was coming (so they knew, at the latest, shortly before the CC....they have publicly stated that they have been preparing for this.....)...this being the case, they were fully informed, and have given extremely bullish statements on future growth.
So, the question is pretty simple, I think...Does one believe them?
(and trust their competence in seeing EMC's future as accurately as anyone)..
Yeah, the last few weeks kindof stink, but let's keep our eye on the prize...the only qualm I have (a little one) is that EMC should have got the possibility out (more strongly) in the open, so we wouldn't have one of these 8 point drop days...but, after holding Dell for over a year, I am kindof use to these punches in the stomach now and then <G> |
