You're right, but institutions have very short time spans for measuring performance, in most cases the end of the quarter, only 2 months from now. Your observation reinforces the view that institutions are behind this shift. Since they dominate the market, that probably means that EMC stock price will be sluggish the next few months. Private investors can take a longer view, and buying good companies when the stock price is temporarily depressed is a great long term strategy.
