Brister,

Ouch. But I suppose the question is could you add your hardware?

As far as the remaining ones.

>>>programmable interrupt controller on irq2
microsoft mpu audio driver(wdm) on irq9
intel universal host controller
irq holder for pci steering <<<<

Me thinks your stuck with these. The audio driver probably runs your pc speaker. interupt, host controller, and pci bus don't mess with. doing away with these is alot like removing internet explorer, heh heh.

Regards your IDE controller.

Question,

Do you have 2 devices on the ide controller?

These could be a hard drives, cd roms, or a combination of both. If you have both of these installed(plugged into the mb) look and see if you have a cd rom controller(device manager).

If not and everything is functioning properly, just leave it. This is controlling both cdrom and hard drive.

If you have a cdrom contoller installed(device manager), then check the properties of the bus master controller(the secondary bus master will be a subset that shows up when you click the little plus/minus . In 95(i don't have a 98 box handy) it will allow you to select none, primary, or secondary or primary and secondary ide devices. Setting to primary only should free up the interupt.

Restart the box and see if everything works. If not, just go back and check whatever setting you started with and reboot, all should be fine and live with the extra used irq. Sometimes windows sticks stuff in the wrong places.

In thinking about it tho, as far as IRQ's go, if the devices don't exist, they aren't going to give you grief. Where you will run into problems is when you want to add hardware and Windows can't find a place to put it.

>>>>>>>>I got the irq blues!<<<<<<<<<

You and me both, there's nothing quite as exciting has clicking your mouse and having your printer spit out random screen shots!

Good luck,

V
