Stuart,

Sounds like you had a great trip. You're right...the weather has been amazing. The "NO BUGS" part is particularly true. When I was out on Sunday, the fish were really striking at insects over the water. They seemed much more aggressive than I can ever remember seeing before. Perhaps the food supply isn't very good due to lack of mosquitoes and blackflies.

I'll bet that kevlar canoe seemed light indeed! When I switched to my kevlar-carbon fibre canoe last year, I couldn't believe the difference. I solo paddle in the odd place where the put-in is down a steep river bank. Nothing like trying to carry a 60 pound canoe down a rocky bank while trying not to sprain an ankle. My new canoe is about 45 lbs. and it's amazing what a difference it makes when you knock off that extra 15-20 pounds.

Well, let's hope for some more great weather over the summer. We do need some rain though. If this dry spell continues, I think we may see a lot of forest fires around the province before long.
