Sony's Super Audio CD (SACD) player will be out soon. SACD provides "legacy" discs have two layers, one that plays in existing CD players, plus a high-density layer for DVD-Audio players. Sony and Philips have partnered on this DVD format that apparently meets the needs of consumers, retailers, and the music industry. From what I have heard, the RIAA is very pleased with the partnership that has formed between the Super Audio CD technology and the music industry. SACD, if on schedule, should roll out very soon in Japan.
