You don't need satellites to deliver to sparse areas. Local transmitters as we have discussed on Last Mile are quite capable in overcoming line-of-sight limitations and have the advantage of less atmospheric exposure. In ten years maybe .001% of the earth's surface won't be reached by cable or local. It doesn't make much sense to put a Panamsat in orbit so the polar bears can have environmental music. We have all that junk in orbit and some day it is going to crash into the earth and kill a lot of people. That's when they'll start building another stop light.
