Never said that. You don't need cable to deliver to dense areas either (and you never said that--just making a point). Need it or not, they're both being deployed. Satellite has economic advantages over terrestrial microwave in some situations. Bottom line is the deployed technology isn't always the optimal solution. It's where those with the capital choose to deploy it that counts, and the satellite-based systems have far more capital behind them.

3G wireless will be hugely popular, but it serves an entirely different need than, for example, cable broadband. Whether there's any justifiable need for multi-megabit roaming service to a hand-held device with a 2 inch screen is a different story.
