This is a segment of an article in today's Phila. Inquirer. VerticalNet is a local co. that has a lot of people excited. It's potential doesn't hold a candle to PNLK(IMO).

"VerticalNet excites investors because it has seized a leadership position in what some think will be the next big Internet wave: business-to-business sales. It offers sites on the World Wide Web where companies in a specific business can advertise, get the latest industry news, and sell directly to customers.

Estimates of the potential for business-to-business sales via the Internet range from $2.2 billion to more than $150 billion annually. The hope is that VerticalNet will get a big piece of that pie.

"VerticalNet continues to represent an exciting business-to-business Internet services story, one that combines a huge untapped market opportunity in terms of linking buyers and sellers across a portfolio of vertical industries," said James Pettit, an analyst at Hambrecht & Quist, one of VerticalNet's underwriters."
