Paul,
Your original post was concerned about the schedule, not about meeting their original goal of 800Mhz.
(https://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=9302622) To be frank, the continued delays in Camino/820/DRDRAM should make ALL INVESTORS worried. Hopefully, Intel will pull this sword out of the fire, but I don't intend to burn at the stake if they don't.
First, they've only had one schedule slip, not continued slips. Go back to their press releases from two years ago and you'll see that they talk about mid-1999 for a release date. So it slipped from June to September.
Second, I've read enough of your posts to know that you understand technology and, given that, I know that you know that scaling back on "Release 1" of a new technology is nothing new. 800Mhz RDRAM has been shown to work, so we're looking at primarily a yield problem. If they're going to fix a yield problem, do you think they'd pick a speed out of the air? No, they'd pick a speed that they feel comfortable that they can produce in sufficient quantities, and a speed that they feel comfortable all the other vendors can produce in sufficient quantities.
So, with respect to your original concern about schedule, I believe they've taken the steps they need to to ensure that they meet the Q3 schedule that they've announced.
With respect to meeting their original 800Mhz goal, they'll get there (and more) as they get up the learning curve. No big deal.
