I Called Martha Lane of the FBI's Quality Assurance Group yesterday. She faxed me the list of FBI Certified products as of February 25, 1997. A complete list of approvals under the pertinent categories are:

Printers:
ú DBII Printers 5601L and 5701L
ú Identicator HP Laserjet 4 printer with gray-scale card
ú Identix TP-600 printer system (HP Laserjet IV, IV Plus, or Ivsi modified with printer adapter card, co-processor & software
ú Printrak LSS2000 Fingerprint Printer

Live Scan Systems:
ú DBII TenPrint live scanner Model 1133S and Model 1133R-500
ú Identix TouchPrint 600 (TP-600) live scan scanner

Card Scan Systems:
ú DBA Systems, Inc. DBA Card Scanner and automatic card feed (Appendix F)
ú IBIS Corporation IBIS Print Transmission System Card Scan System
ú Identicator Configuration of a UMAX UC-1260 scanner (II IQS Scanner Requirements)
ú Improvision Research Corp. Model IS510/S520 card scan system (II IQS Scanner Requirements)
ú NEC Tecnologies NEC Card Scan system(HP4C Scanner)(AppendixG)
ú North American Morpho Model K (IQS certification)
ú Printrak Card Scan System (Appendix G)

I also talked to several engineers and others in the FBI IAFIS unit. They said that they have never heard of 700dpi/200 grey scale standard touted by some participants on the FINX thread and that the FBI has no plans to introduce a higher live scan standard, especially when only 2 companies are currently approved under the existing standard. As you can see, FINX is NOT one of them. IDX's live scanner is 99.999999% accurate. Why would they need better resolution? Apparently the long-winded, eloquently phrased responses of Richard M. Dopk are partially based on fact, but mainly on hope and conjecture.

You raise a good question on the California contract. I have heard the winner will be announced in May or June with a system roll-out in January 1998.

Please feel free to call the FBI IAFIS Quality Assurance Group @ (202) 324-8844 to verify my post.
