Ted,

Don't count out Jerry Sanders.. here's a couple of good reasons why AMD might want Cyrix (remember I said it was goofy and wouldn't bet cash on it, but it's worth mentioning none the less).

(1) Intel is developing an integrated chipset and eventually a PCOAC design of their own. AMD is the last one to join the party and needs to join quick.

(2) AMD is desparate for fab space. Even with the dresden fab online, AMD needs somewhere to start making their K6-2's and K6-III's and still have room left over for K7's, chipsets, etc. (Don't forget the chipsets).

(3) AMD is kind of rich with cash at the moment. In addition, AMD has approximately $600M (I think??) worth of notes that they can sell off (remember they filed with the SEC to reserve the right to sell off something like a billion in new stock, or something along those lines).

(4) AMD's debt load is NOT that high that they couldn't sell some stock and buy Cyrix. Hell AMD might through in their network division to NSM in exchange for a discount on Cyrix.. there are a lot of way it could go.

All of this is just speculation, but as you can see, it *could* be made to work.

Regards,

Steve
