Control Network Supplier, Echelon, Gets New I.T.; Core Technology Group Deploys
Oracle ERP Applications on Windows NT

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1999--Echelon Corporation
(Nasdaq: ELON), headquartered in Palo Alto, is the developer of LONWORKS(R)
networks, recognized internationally as a standard for interoperable control networks.

With thousands of application developers and millions of devices installed worldwide,
the LONWORKS system is a leading open, networked control solution for building and
home automation, industrial, transportation, and public utility applications. In the spring
of 1998, the firm determined that Microsoft's Windows NT operating system was
robust enough to support Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications and worked
with Core Technology Group, a California based systems integrator, to deploy Oracle
Corp.'s financial, order administration and manufacturing applications successfully on
that platform.

The company's previous ERP system, which ran on Digital Equipment Corp.
hardware, was not Y2K compliant and was in need of ongoing upgrades to support
Echelon's growing business. In the spring of 1998, the company examined leading
ERP systems and selected Oracle's products. This decision was based on Oracle's
functionality, flexibility and focus on electronic commerce.

Echelon contacted Oracle Application Dealer Group, a San Jose, Calif., corporation
that resells Oracle's ERP applications to medium and small companies. The firm
provided Echelon with suggestions related to implementation partners. In the summer,
the control network device supplier selected Core. "Core was an easy choice for
Echelon because of their corporate culture, resources and experience in Oracle
implementations," stated Thad Starkey, vice president of operations and Oracle project
manager at Echelon.

Core helped Echelon determine how to migrate its legacy information to the new
platform. In addition, the firm transferred its knowledge of the Oracle architecture,
applications and capabilities to Echelon personnel.

Those transitions took place throughout the fall and the new system was cut over
during the first week of January. In the first day of operation, Echelon was using
Oracle to conduct all required business processes. "Moving our ERP system to Oracle
on Windows NT in five months and on schedule was a significant accomplishment,"
stated Starkey.

The company plans to expand its use of Oracle's applications to include the sales and
marketing module, as well as leveraging Oracle to improve the velocity of the supply
chain within its outsourcing manufacturing model. Core may help with that
implementation. "I feel very comfortable with the Core consultants and management. I
think they did a great job meeting the challenges of our implementation. I'm sure we
will use Core in the future as we utilize Oracle products and technology as a
competitive advantage in the marketplace," commented Starkey.

Established in 1985, Core Technology Group specializes in bringing eSolutions utilizing
foundation and web technologies to major companies with both local and global
operations. Core has recently performed implementations at companies, such as
Plantronics, Specialized Bike, Onsale, VISA, Aurora Biosciences, Cisco Systems, and
Novell. Core's dedicated team of professionals has compiled a superior track record of
quality service, timely responsiveness and teamwork for hundreds of customers.
