I know how the press reacted when an Iranian civil airliner was shot down by the U.S. On course, on schedule, listening to the right atc frequencies. That famous bastion of the "liberal" press, the NYT, had an editorial basicly saying what a good idea it was. The on course, on schedule, listening to the right atc frequencies business took a while to come out, of course. But the Reaganauts wouldn't lie, would they?

I also know how the Bush administration reacted when Saddam sent a stray missile or 2 at a U.S. warship. That was cool, too. Strange how Saddam got the wrong idea how we'd react later, but there were somewhat more proximate reasons for him getting the wrong idea.
