Chinese mobile telecom market: Unicom will add extra capacity for 6 million GSM subs and 2 million CDMA subs this year. Meanwhile, these investments - slanted as they are in favor of GSM - are dwarfed by China Telecom growth. CT is adding about a million new GSM subs every *month* this year.

China Unicom has *exclusive CDMA rights". Translation - it will probably be the only CDMA operator in China. Competing with its own, far better funded GSM division and several China Telecom spin-offs. Some of which will most likely be funded by British Telecom, AT&T, etc. within a year.

As far as eight-year share price development is concerned - I would concentrate on the last three months if I were you, Maurice. That would be a much sounder tactic than leading the debate to long term performance.

Nokia cost around a buck a share in 1991.
