David,

A further look at CTST....would indicate that next Tuesday is the day to watch.......

The discussion will include Verisign, Compaq, Identicator, Visa, RSA and HP.

Interesting line-up.........Could it be another dream team in the making?

Here is the CTST schedule for Tuesday afternoon.....

Public Key Infrastrucutres: Incorporating Smart Cards and Biometrics
2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Moderator: Michael Baum, Vice President, Practices & External Affairs VeriSign, Inc.
This seminar explores the current status of public key infrastructures including discussion of certificate authorities and various ways digital signatures can be generated. After establishing the foundation for this complex technology, the session will focus on the role of biometrics and smart cards in authenticating the identity of the user, securely storing certificates, and generating signatures. All of these functions are commonly expected to make future public key (PK), infrastructures more secure, by answering the question, "Who is on the other end of the transaction?" But we have a long way to go before deployment is a reality! Biometrics and smart cards are considered complementary technologies that enhance security and trust in electronic signatures. But where do the major PK efforts stand relative to these technologies? Some issues have been resolved and standards do exist. The seminar will fill you in on things like the PKCS 11 and 15 standards. But many other issues remain open such as: certificate content; discernible protection for private keys; computational power versus speed and cost of cards; validation of third-party identification; size and security of biometric templates; certification of the biometric; classes of certificates; and much more. This seminar is tremendously important for any organization that plans to incorporate smart cards and/or biometrics into their PK solution. It will tell you where major PKI efforts stand today and what needs to happen so you can reach where you want to be tomorrow. NEW/Recommended for Developers Recommended for Developers
