Hi Ian,..Re:. When Arthur Levitt speaks about securities related issues, it is worthwhile to listen,

When I heard part of his speech yesterday, I got the distinct impression that he lumped all traders/investors in with those bimbos shown on the Ameritrade commercials. So after reading your post, I went back and read his speech and the highlights of the remarks. The speech still strikes me as speaking down to John Q Public in general.

Maybe the on-line trading/investing public is as ignorant as his message implies but it never occurred to me to start trading/investing without a thorough investigation into the securities market in general. Learning is an on-going experience and I continue to learn important aspects almost daily so I was kind of amazed he was addressing the most basic tenets of risking one's hard-earned money.

It didn't help that the 'holier-than-thou' CNBC hosts or humorless critis according to Cory Johnson of thestreet.com who constantly imply that the on-line investors haven't a clue, smiled smugly and appeared to have their constant message justified by Mr. Leavitt.

JMHO and thanks for your comments,

Lee
