"The MSFT/T deal is probably good for CUBE simply because MSFT and CUBE have worked together in the past" Only on DEMOS of encoder interface software. We haven't seen anything come of that. The AT&T/TCI/GI settop box uses Windows CE as it's primary OS and Sun's JavaTV application programming interface, it is tailored for the @Home service. The MediaOne DiviCube box using Cube silicon would need to support that set of software. The Java part and @Home service support is straight forward but the WinCE part of the box might be a stumbling block. Cube uses the Sun Sparc CPU core in it's fully integrated AViA TV chips. Either Cube mates AViA TV to another CPU (They do have a CPU less part) or they convince MSFT to port WinCE to Sun's Sparc CPU. I just don't see the latter happening... TCI also agreed to adopt Sony's Aperios real-time operating system as an alternative operating system for use in its digital set-tops. So Cube does have a non MS OS available to them if they partner with Sony.
