You're right. The Playstation II will be a huge win for Rambus. There's only a couple of "gotchas":

1) Playstation II won't be out until Christmas of 2000, which is quite a wait.

2) Sure, right now it might have the best 3D engine on the planet (Sony even claims it's three times as powerful as a Pentium III, whatever that means), but Christmas of 2000 is more than 18 months away. According to Moore's Law, by that time other computers will have at least doubled their processing power, and the specs of Playstation II won't look as impressive anymore.

Point #1 is a big thing and demands patience from us Rambus investors. Point #2, however, might be irrelevant. It won't matter how powerful the Playstation II computing engine is, as long as it's a Playstation, period. Look at how popular Playstation I is compared to Nintendo 64 which boasts of a stronger 64-bit game engine.

All the more proof that the real money for Rambus isn't a question of if, but when.
