Anyway, despite the muddy language it's clear enough that CYMI thinks it can concede the low-cost part of its market, and is resigned to loosing market share. I don't like that.


I suspect that if it really started to cause problems, Cymer would come out with an econo-laser; I don't think that they'll drop the price of their top-of-the-line models. It's similar to the situation Intel faces in the processor market. I do wonder whether Cymer's patent inventory affords any protection against competitors improving their models to the same level of capability as Cymer's best. It might be a good question for the upcoming annual meeting.

I don't find Akin to be obfuscatory at all. He seems to be quite straightforward about the company's strategy and execution thereof. We may or may not agree with it, but I don't detect any attempts to 'put a shine on s..t', as someone once put it.
