I've had similar thoughts for the last year or so for the same reasons. The problem with gold is that there seems to be a large vested interest in demonetizing it, making it illegitimate as an investment option, and otherwise depressing its price.

Everything from dealer verbal trashing, central bank sales, central bank leasing, forward sales and everything else possible keeps the price down.

And I've seen some reasonable analysis that suggests that these are not all "free market" activities.

So that even if the gold bugs are right in the long run, I suspect that anything and everything will be done to depress its price in the mean time to advance the agenda of fiat money and protect all the short positions etc...
