James, if what you are saying is true than can you explain to me why virtally all ERP vendors have 50 or more developers dedicated to "porting" groups - and are largely involved with porting issues to unix (primarily locking)? Are you saying that that was the past - possible I haven't been involved in over 8 mos with this.

Because if thats the case then I don't follow why somebody like Cisco which has multiple unix environments has to wait for Oracle ERP to build on hpux (which is a laggard) before they can come up on a new release of ERP. What should happen, is the minute the Sun port is available (which is the base port) then all the ports for the ERP should be ready. Sometimes there are months between releases - why, do you know?

I was an ERP director myself although not involved in the porting area. I do know that we have struggled with this for years and continue to. The area I am talking about was once under someone (ironically with last name Porter) at Oracle, I can't see any reason for that huge group to exist if what you say is true.
