"What I object to is a policy to protect technologically obsolete broker-dealers by scaring the daylights out of investors who want to move their accounts to on-line trading firms." - From Bloomberg article. Well said.

Anyone see the joker (Arvind Bhatia) CNBC has been quoting all day wringing his hands with worry about all these "day-traders" who have never seen a bear market and are likely to panic and collapse the entire financial system at the hint of a sell-off. Don't any of these numbskulls ever manage to figure out that it's 'investors' buying and holding stocks they recommend who have to worry about bear markets not day-traders who thrive on volatility. I guess he's never heard of selling short.
